Where history meets the future
The Grand Hall ZOLLVEREIN® is a multifunctional event location situated on the UNESCO World Heritage ZOLLVEREIN® in Essen - right in the heart of the Ruhr region. It was commissioned on 12 September 1961 at the ZOLLVEREIN® colliery as an exhauster and compressor hall that served the former ZOLLVEREIN® colliery. It remained that way for over three decades until it was closed on 30 June 1993. The entire ZOLLVEREIN® Shaft XII facility was the largest and most cutting-edge hard coal mine in the world. From 1998 onwards, the Zollverein Foundation, which was founded in the same year, has dedicated its efforts to the restoration and preservation of this great industrial monument.
